Check whether a photo is actually requested

Resume photo requirements vary by employer, school, and country. There is no single rule comparable to a passport format. Check whether a photo is requested at all before preparing one. This page helps you crop for a stated print size and see the output pixels; you can continue to Resize or Compress when an online application also gives a file-size limit.

US résumés commonly omit a headshot, and federal résumé guidance warns against including photographs. Use this tool only when a recipient requests one, or for a separate profile image. Custom size starts at 35×45 mm and can be changed.

  1. Check whether a photo is requested and whether the dimensions use pixels or millimeters.
  2. Enter any specified dimensions, then adjust the face and shoulder composition.
  3. View it at its actual size in the application and check the final format and file size.
Is 35×45 mm an official US résumé requirement?

No. It is only an editable starting size. Follow the employer or profile platform’s instructions, and do not add a photo to an application that excludes it.

Should I send a print sheet for an online profile?

Usually you need a single image, not a sheet of copies. Choose Single photo and check the platform’s pixel and file-size requirements. Print sheets are for physical prints, with scaling disabled at the printer.

What size is often used for a Japanese resume?

Some standard Japanese resume forms use a 30 × 40 mm photo, which is available as a preset. The dimensions on the actual form take priority. Also check instructions about recency or writing a name on the reverse of a print. Online applications may specify pixels and file size separately.

Should I add a photo to an English-language resume?

Many US hiring contexts normally use resumes without a photo. Adding one is not automatically helpful. Check the job announcement or the institution’s form first. If no photo is requested, focusing on readable content without adding unnecessary personal details may be more appropriate.

Why does my face look stretched in the document?

Changing width and height independently in a document editor can distort a picture. Keep its proportions when resizing, or crop it to match the photo box first. If you export the application as PDF, inspect that final PDF too: the face shape and clarity should match what you intended.
